Tertiary treatment commercial

Overview

Tertiary treatment

The Puraflo Multiple Module or Peat Filter Bed, the Moving Bed Biological Reactor (MBBR) and the Platinum Small Community System package treatment plant can be followed by:

  • Puraflo Peat Filter for tertiary treatment
  • Backwash Sand Filter

Puraflo Peat Bio-Filters

The Puraflo Peat Bio-Filter is ideally suited for tertiary treatment across a range of applications, including single-house and larger developments.

The Puraflo system for tertiary polishing has the ability to deal effectively with fine solids that cannot be settled in a secondary treatment aeration system, but can be removed in the peat filter.

The physical and biological nature of treatment of a peat filter allows residual recalcitrant solids to be trapped on the peat fibre, allowing a long retention time for degradation.

The conditions within the peat filter are particularly conducive to an additional reduction of coliforms and pathogens from that achieved in a secondary treatment system.

The surface area of the peat filter for tertiary treatment is relatively small. Modular and site-constructed configurations of the Peat filter are available for tertiary treatment of wastewater.

Quality of treated wastewater:
BOD 10mg / l
TSS 10mg / l

Backwash Sand Filters

At Anua we also offer high-rate Backwash Sand Filters which follow on from a secondary treatment system to achieve effective tertiary polishing.

Benefits of Sand Filters are that:

  • They have a very small footprint area, making this option an effective and efficient way of reaching the required consent levels
  • They act as a final stage treatment process to remove a minimum 60% suspended solids and 40% biological oxygen demand (BOD)
  • They can be installed above or below ground
  • Influent can flow by gravity or be pumped into filter unit
  • Backwash removes solids trapped in sand filter media and waste backwash water is returned to the plant for re-treatment
  • Units are sized to tackle various flow rates
  • Population equivalents up to 600, multiples thereafter
